Living in Cape Town inevitably raises your seafood standards. When you’re accustomed to ocean-fresh fare, ordering seafood inland can feel like a gamble. So I was admittedly hesitant but curious to try seafood from Besos Restaurant.
One glance at the menu and the seafood pasta had my full attention.
I’m pleased to report that it exceeded every expectation. The pasta was luxuriously creamy with a bright, zesty undertone that balanced the richness beautifully. Most importantly, the seafood tasted fresh which is a non-negotiable for me. A dash of Tabasco elevated the dish even further, adding a gentle heat that tied everything together. The experience extended beyond the plate. The staff were warm and attentive without being intrusive, and the ambiance struck the perfect balance of relaxed, intimate and refreshingly free from overpowering music. In a city where high-energy dining is often the norm, this felt like a welcome change of pace.
I also sampled the lamb chops served with fried rice. While hearty and well-prepared, the dish felt somewhat understated compared to the standout seafood pasta. A solid option, but not the star of the evening.
For those seeking a blend of Mediterranean, seafood, and proudly South African flavours in a refined yet comfortable setting, Besos Restaurant is well worth the visit.
