Lemon-Harissa Whole Fish (Hungry Co. Style)

Whenever I go to strand, I make it a point to stop for some whole, fresh fish near the beach. There’s nothing really better than fresh fish and I created this recipe because it is easy and oh so lemony, our harissa paste just takes it to the top with its rich, fiery flavour!

Enjoy!

INGREDIENTS

  •   1 whole fish, cleaned and gutted
  •   1-2 tbsp Hungry Co. Harissa paste
  •   3 cloves garlic, finely chopped or crushed
  •   2 tsp mixed herbs
  •   Salt & black pepper, to taste
  •   2-3 lemons (sliced + juice)
  •   1 medium onion, sliced
  •   2 tbsp oil (vegetable or olive oil)

DIRECTIONS
  1.   Preheat the oven by setting to 180°C.
  2.   Pat dry and score both sides of the fish.
  3.   Make the marinade by mixing harissa paste, garlic, mixed herbs, salt, pepper, lemon juice and oil.
  4.   Season generously
  5.   Rub the marinade all over the fish, inside the cavity and into the cuts.
  6.   Stuff the fish with onion slices and lemon.
  7.   Add extra lemon slices on top if you want.
  8.   Place the fish on a lined tray or oven dish.
  9.   Bake uncovered for 15-20 minutes, depending on size, until the flesh flakes easily and the skin is lightly crisped.
